Bobcat Trail Underway
The Sun-Herald - July 24, 1997
By Marshall Grove

Developers hold symbolic ground breaking The actual ground breaking has been going on for more than two weeks, but Wednesday's action made it official. Bobcat Trail, North Port's newest golf course community, is underway. City and chamber officials and other guests turned off Toledo Blade Boulevard and braved a dirt road, slickened by recent rains, leading to a tent to participate in the ceremony. Many women did some ground breaking of their own, as high heels sank into the rain-softened road. If it was already a golf course, it would have been called aerating the soil. The guests and Bobcat Trail developers, KEB Inc. of Jonesboro, Ark., didn't let the weather conditions bother them. A tent set up with refreshments kept the sun at bay as KEB principle Bob Troutt spoke to the crowd. Troutt spoke as if he knew Florida well. "People in Florida look at developers with jaundiced eyes. We're doing what we say we're going to do. You can look around and see it," he said gesturing at the clearing work in progress at the site. Troutt also spoke about the friendliness of the community, how easy he had found it to work with the city and his excitement at beginning clearing for the golf course and development. "I'm really wound up about this project," he said. Bobcat Trail will encompass 480 wooded acres, an 18-hole golf course, 439 single family homes and 110 villas on the east side of Toledo Blade. Rental apartments and commercial units are envisioned on the company's property on the west side of the boulevard. KEB has selected three preferred builders for the project, Arthur Rutenberg Homes/Pete McNabb, Fero Construction Inc. and Yorktown Tome Homes Inc. The golf course is being designed by PGA champion Bob Tway. Ed Troutt of KEB said his company is negotiating with a golf course construction company in Arkansas who was selected as one of the best in the nation. He said he hopes the course will be ready by late spring of 1998.
